This is a colorful illustration of a Volutae Shell (Cymbiola imperialis, a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk of the genus Cymbiola in the family Volutidae). It first appeared as plate #386 in the book "Neues Systematisches Conchylien Cabinet" by Friedrich Martini, a German physician and conchologist. Martini began work on the book in 1769. Later, Johann Chemnitz added to the multi-volume book set.
