DESCRIPTION:
This colorful illustration of Field Crickets (Gryllus Monstrsus, Gryllus Reticulatus, Gryllus Punctatus) first appeared in "Insects of India", by Edward Donovan, in London, 1800. This book illustrated the natural history of the insects of India and the islands in the Indian seas. It contained 250 colorful insects. Interestingly, Donovan lived in London and made drawings of insects purchased mainly at auctions of specimens from voyages of exploration. He never traveled out of England.
