DESCRIPTION:

This is a colorful illustration of a King's Crown Shell (Cassicles verae et Fimbriatae [trans: shell with fringe], likely a Melongena corona, commonly know as King's Crown). It first appeared as plate #35 in the book "Neues Systematisches Conchylien Cabinet" by Friedrich Martini, a German physician and conchologist. Martini began work on the book in 1769. Later, Johann Chemnitz added to the multi-volume book set.
