This bright and colorful scientific illustration of Ascidiae (tiny sea creatures commonly known as sea squirts) first appeared in the book "Kunstformen der Natur" (Art Forms of Nature), by Dr. Ernst Haeckel, which was published in Germany between 1899 and 1904. The over-riding theme being Haeckel's vision of symmetry and organization in the natural world.
