This fantastic illustration of an American Avocet, Plate 318, is from "Birds of North America", a book by John James Audubon, America's most famous naturalist and painter. The book contained 435 illustrations of a wide variety of birds and required 13 years of work. The original edition, called the Havell Edition, was first published as a series between 1827 and 1838, in Edinburgh and London.
